Remembering Light
At this time of year going for a walk around 6pm decidedly means walking in the cool air at dusk. And it was on such a walk just recently when I had the pleasure of meeting Lady and Georgie, two beautiful medium-sized dogs accompanied by a cute couple on their own early evening walk.
Georgie was a beautiful, solid light brown color, full of vibrant, young energy, and exuberant over every little thing. Lady on the other hand was mostly white with a few light brown spots here and there. Clearly a little older, she was very calm, and extremely pleasant.
Whenever I tried to pet Georgie, he would rear up on his hind legs pulling against his collar and leash. Lunging with his paws forward and trying to grasp any amount of physical contact he could get from me, the gentleman handling him would pull him back. And in order not to get hurt, I had to pull away – regrettably. If only he had been more still, or at least consolable, I could have given him the attention he so craved and wanted.
Through it all, Lady just sat there. Clearly familiar with her friend’s approach to all of life it seemed, she quietly came to my side and looked up with her big brown eyes. Gently waiting for the drama to subside, she sat there with complete faith to receive what she instinctively knew would come. I bent down and talked quietly with her petting her head and length of her body. She just beamed with joy and took it all in. Her head raised an inch or two in complete acceptance and surrender. Lady was in heaven.
As this was all happening in real time, I saw in my mind’s eye how similar this situation is to the way people are at times. When we hold on for dear life, it can often cause us to rear up grasping and lunging for fear of losing out on what we perceive is ours or what we think we need, want, or deserve. Maybe it’s some form of attention, a chance to be heard, being Loved, trying to appear self-confident, or even to know we are Lovable - something, anything we desperately believe is ours to have. Ironically, all we ever really need to do is sit there and receive it. To trust and know that all is well. To surrender to the unfolding while remaining completely rooted in our own light.
Whenever we overcome fear, we sometimes look back and wonder why we did not see sooner there was nothing to fear in the first place. The reason any of us conquer fear is that we let Love in. And the way we do that is by remembering our Light.
Imagine what would happen if you remembered your Light every time?
Love,
